Freemie with Medela PISA

0

My maternity leave is coming to the end. As I am going to resume work soon, I have been busy pumping to build up my breastmilk storage.

I am glad to be given the opportunity to try Freemie by XuaAn Best. I am currently using Medela PISA, however I find it inconvenient as I need to hold the 'horns' for the milk to flow into the bottle. With Freemie collection cups, I can pump handsfree with my shirt on and multitasks.

How to connect Freemie to Medela PISA
It is rather easy to connect Freemie to Medela PISA pump. Basically you just need Freemie's Quick Connector and Tubing and connect to Medela's tubing.

Since there are some mummies posted in facebook network that you can get the same or more yield if you replace Freemie's valve with Medela's valve, I have decided to give it a try.

My thoughts after using Freemie with Medela PISA
  1. Yes, you can get the same yield using Freemie with Medela's valve.
  2. To prevent leakage, it is best if you position your body straight upright.
  3. You need to ensure that your bra is tight fitting enough to hold the cups to your breast to avoid loss of suction. This may be a challenge if you need strong suction to draw out milk from your breast.

Where can I buy Freemie collection cups?
XuaAn Best is selling Freemie at RM340 with free shipping (including to Singapore too). Currently they are having a 5% discount storewide --> Price after discount is RM323. If you are unsure whether Freemie will work with your pump or not, they can offer you a free trial with a minimum deposit. This is definitely a plus point for those who wants to try out before purchasing it.

Why I hate Freemie and it's improved version

0

Freemie - Improved Version

When I first purchase Freemie, I was so happy because of the hands free function but the longer I used, the more flaws I discovered. One of the most annoying lacking features of Freemie is that the cup is faintly tint. I could not see what is happening inside the pump (i.e. whether the suction is good, if I position my nipple correctly and etc.).

I hate Freemie because of all these but then, the improved version impressed me :)

If you remember my previous sharing about the cons of Freemie, today's blog post will be a good news for mummies who have the same concern.

There are a few improvements on the new cups, which will be very beneficial for all mothers :
1) The new Freemie cups will come with transparent cups instead of translucent cups, so that mothers can see directly into the cups while pumping to see the amount of milk collected.
2) The Freemie logo, funnel sizes and milk measurements in Ounces will be engraved into the cups!
3) All Freemie cups will come with 2 backflow protectors and all the accessories needed to pump with all brands of breast pumps.

Freemie Malaysia Singapore – Medela Freestyle

1

Freemie 000

Freemie

Freemie, accoding to the website – is not compatible with all types of pumps which include Medela FS. However, I still want to give a try. Thank god, my Freemie (Medela Kit) and backflow protector works well.
My review on Freemie and Medela FS.

HOW TO CONNECT MY MEDELA FS TO FREEMIE?

This picture shows how Medela FS is being connected to the Freemie. As you can see, it use back the same tube and merely attach it to the backflow protector and then to the Freemie tube.
You can purchase either Avent or Spectra brand. Mine is Spectra that cost me around MYR40.

MUST I BUY BACKFLOW PROTECTOR?

No. A lot mummy say they are ok without but I am afraid of backflow so I just buy in case. My experience tell me that when i bend over nearer to my monitor, I tend to have backflow so i guess it depends on individual.
Freemie FS 1

HOW TO USE MY FREEMIE?

I do not use any special or nursing bra but a larger size of bra (upgrade one more cup size) with no padding. Put on the Freemie onto your breast, having the nipple fit into the hole and ensure your bra support the Freemie fitly. I am using a 25mm size Freemie. Make sure you got the correct size for better performance.
You can try to bend a little when you have attached your Freemie. If it does not move away from your nipple then it is fine.

HOW MUCH BM CAN FREEMIE FIT?

I yield about 2-3oz each side every 3 hours so i hope no problems with the cup size. Each cup can fit 8oz.

HOW TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF FREEMIE TO BUY?

Initially when I order, I goes like, “Cup C please.” and she goes like, “Urm, we only have 25mm 28mm..” LMAO So shy! It does not matter you are a A or G cup. They have only one cup size FYI. So, please order size according to your nipple size.

WILL I LOOK WEIRD WITH THE FAKE BOOBS?

This is my concern too! This vidoe can give you a rough estimate of how much your boobs will being “enlarged” to. For me, as I have an Asian boobs so I do enjoy having a bigger boobs for a while. It looks fine on me.

WHERE TO BUY AND HOW MUCH?

I purchase mine from Pump love – a reseller I found in facebook. Another reseller is BingBling SG. base in Singapore and also Best-baby.sg. Pump Love base in Malaysia. Another alternative is buy from Amazon of course, this is cheaper that reseller. But so far as I know, Pump love is the first and only authorised reseller in Malaysia when I purchase my freemie.
Bought mine for MYR250 and addition of MYR40 for the backflow protector.

The new Freemie upgraded review can be found here priced at RM329 inclusive of BFP!

Why should I buy Freemie? Pro and Cons

0

Pro #1
The selling point of invisibility has been proven and I believe no one should debate on that. It ease anyone that want to have the convenient of pumping everywhere and anytime. I have successfully pump on train, plane and in car. Pump while working, doing shopping or even running errands.

Pro #2
It is not expensive given the fact that it can help you to save empathy of time.

Pro #3
It has only 4 parts to be washed. Other than the valve, other parts are consider easily reachable by my bottle brush.

Even best thing have it shortfall right?

Con #1
It is tinted. You can see what is happening inside nor know how much you have actually pumped.

Con #2
You can’t store immediately what you have pumped. You need to pour it out and transfer to bottle. Not a good thing for low supply mummy as every drop is precious as gold.

Con #3
Despite the fact that it can handsfree pump, user have to sit up straight with minimal movement to prevent back flow. Then again, back flow can be prevented by BFP.

What was commonly asked by people is; how is the suction like? I was actually having problem with my first Freemie. However, my Freemie Deluxe suction works wonder! Much better than my first.

My Journey Freemie Deluxe

0

Freemie Deluxe

Freemie introduce a new way of handsfree pump. Being an EPM mummy, handsfree pump is almost a gem of all the creation in the world. It saves time and enable me to multitask. If you are a FTW BF mummy, you know what I am talking!

I have been using Medela Freestyle since Jan 2012 till today, and still counting. A very happy and contented user till I changed job this year where I need to travel 2 hours to and fro work everyday. My colleague then told me how she save time is, she pumped in the car while stuck in the jam. Brilliant? I tried, but my meddle freestyle just a little bit too hard for me to pump “invisible” because once I fixed my pump on handsfree mode, it will looking a horizontal KLCC tower stuck out on my breast.

Medela Freestyle – Handsfree pump

My journey with Freemie started when one the mummy show casing how she pump with her shirt on and looking almost invisible. It enable her to pump everywhere and anywhere without anyone realising. Well, some of my reader asked, why bother? As an Asian mum, we live in a culture where people are more conservative. Plus, if you have came to Malaysia for a tour, you will realise that Malaysia has just started to be a breastfeeding friendly place starting this year, 2014.

My sharing on Freemie will be categorised as below so that it ease your search.
Hope my sharing helps and let me know if you have any questions. Lastly, I have got dozen of PM asking where I buy my Freemie. It is bought from an authorised reseller called PumpLove.

Will share her phone number here so that you can whatsapp her +016 774 9968. Not sure what is her name but you can just call up and ask her for more details :)

Don’t understand all the short abbreviation? Read here :)

Freemie Deluxe – Assemble with Medela Freestyle

3

FAQ: If I am using a non compatible pump (like me, I am using Medela Freestyle), can I self modify / enhance the parts to suit my pump?

I have read and understood that my pump, Medela Freestyle is not compatible with Freemie so I have made enquiries to the reseller and ask about it. I am worried what if I have spend the money and I could not use it? Worse, if I have to buy another pump just to use Freemie. My conversation and queries with the reseller as follows (green is reseller):
  • Is it compatible with Medela Freestyle?
  • Yes.
  • But I read and research, so far the reviews all commented a no.
  • For Medela Deluxe, if you can use it with Medela Freestyle.
  • What is the concern and why everyone say No? What is the risk?
  • If you use a wrong pump the risk is the back flow problem. The milk may flow back to your pump. This can actually be resolved if you use a back flow protector.
This is the back flow protector and how to assemble. A little modification and it works!

Tutorial & step by step:
  • After you assemble freemie (refer to my previous video sharing), you can now connect your tube to the (tube 2 – which is the bigger tube) .
  • Fix the tube 2 to your BFP.
TAKE NOTE! You must fix the tube 2 connecting to the smaller tubing toward the pump. Or else the BFP won’t be protecting your pump!
  • Then connect the other end of tube 2 to Medela.
Vola! Happy pumping people!

Freemie Deluxe Malaysia, Asia - Reseller Review

0

There are so many reseller on the market so how to go about to decide who to buy from?

Tip #1
Accessibility is always very important to me. I personally prefer to buy from shop or local reseller and the nearer the better. This is because I believer if anything happens I can go back to the reseller easily. Then again, online reseller works fine for me – normally their price are more competitive.

Tip #2
Warranty. I want a warranty that can be directly send back to the manufacturer. So, No No No parallel importer. My experience with parallel importer was VERY BAD. They took my xxx back and come back to me very very late. Worse, they send my xxx to a local shop and get it repair and send it back to me and I realise it is not fixed with some of my original part missing!

Tip #3
Service. When you buy a new thing in the market (Yes, Freemie was very new in Malaysia market back then in early 2014), you want a reseller that can help to advise.

Tip #4
Of course, money matters. I compare price.

There is a long long list of reseller that you can find. Back then there are less than 3 to choose from. I bought mine from Pump Love, the first and authorised reseller in Malaysia. So far, I am very happy with her service as she teach me how to use and get back to my every question when I asked. Also, her price are the cheapest among all the quotation that I obtained.
